Novomer Catalyst

A catalyst is a substance which is generally used in small amounts to increase the rate of a reaction, but without being consumed in the process. Catalyst technology is ubiquitous in the chemicals industry and is used to transform molecules into a variety of everyday products including fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, plastics, and fuels.

Novomer’s proprietary catalysts unlock low energy pathways that transform simple, abundant feedstocks like carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide into high-performance plastics and chemicals. Novomer catalytic systems are non-precious metal based and can be synthesized using traditional organic chemistry in only a few steps. The catalysts were originally developed at Cornell University and are exclusively licensed to Novomer.

Polymers are created by linking single molecules (monomers) together to form long chains, like beads ona string. Novomer can control the constitution and orientation of the molecules along the chain giving rise to unique physical and mechanical properties, which in turn increases usefulness in a particular application.

Catalyst is needed for reaction to proceed but it is not used up in the process.
